Moments of Glory

Had been a  Professional Dance Member of the world renowned Tanusree Shankar dance Company since 1994. Had the opportunity to work with some of the greatest dance exponents of the world like Mrs. Amala Shankar, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Margaret Jenkins, Pearl Lang, Andre Tyson, Janet Kaylo, Mamata Shankar, Rathna Kumar, Ranjan Mullarrat, Shiamak Davar and many others.

Participated in the following cross-cultural choreographed presentations by western contemporary artists,

a) “Canticle” (1997) – by Jaqulyn Buglisi, and later staged in kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai in India.

b) “Sphericalinearisation” (1998) by Andre Tyson in Kolkata.

c) “Inner City Streets” (2003) by Jaan Freeman (a choreographed piece based on Horton, Dunham, Bharatnatyam and Kalaripayattu techniques) in Kolkata.

d) “Passages” (2003) by Margaret Jenkins in Kolkata.

e) “Demonstration show” (2011) by Akusya Boakya.

Recipient  of  the “CocaCola  Scholarship  for Artistic Excellence” A  two  month residency  at  New  York  to  take  part  in  the summer  intensive course at the Martha Graham school of Contemporary Dance.

Choreographed a piece titled “Impressions”, with the members of the company following the technique that she has learnt over the years at her institute and the style that she has  imbibed from her training abroad. This piece was first staged at kolkata, India in 1997.

Has been one of the three dancers from India to participate in the Millennium Festival titled “Dounia”organised by Sampad in Birmingham, UK. This was a cross cultural programme based on Afro-Caribbean, western and Indian Contemporary, Kathak and Bhangra styles.

Participated  in the biggest Fan-Fare  event  in  Europe –  “The  Edinburgh  Fringe  Festival” in  the year 2002. This was a dance theater collaboration with British and Indian actors and  New Age dance, directed by British theater director Toby Gough.

Besides  traveled  extensively  for company performances, workshops, projects, festivals and a freelance performer in  India  and  to  countries  like Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Oman, Qatar, Mauritius, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, Belgium besides USA and UK.

Worked as a guest lecturer and choreographer in the year 2004 at “Anjali”- a premier dance institution in Houston, USA, under the able leadership of Mrs. Rathna Kumar, a  Bharatnayam dance exponent.

Has worked as a teacher/choreographer in La- Martiniere School for Girl’s, Kolkata, India, at the Annual Sports Event in the year 2002 and 2003 where some 300 students from the junior and senior schools participated.

Had been an Assistant teacher/choreographer to Mrs Tanusree Shankar in conducting workshops and performances at South Asian arts, Leeds and Sriram Sai center at Birmingham.

Have worked as a freelance dance development worker (teacher/choreographer) with Nottingham Asian arts Council  taking classes at Nottingham Asian Arts Centre, Gujrat Samaj, Nupur Arts Academy, Leicester and Mansfield Community Centre in the UK. Was also affiliated in the above post with Wise Moves dance organization in the UK. Had conducted classes at Intake farm Primary school at Mansfield and Primary School at Cheshire.
